MLC Breach Leads to Ship Detention
For the second time this year the Danish Maritime Authority have detained a foreign ship for infringing the Maritime Labour Convention 2006, which entered into force in August 2013.
Denmark’s largest maritime union, CO-Sea, reports that port inspections on board the Greek-owned ship Mermaid led to the ships detention, with the crew on board being reported to have been without hiring contracts.
The detention means that Mermaid will be banned from EU ports for the next three months, as the ship has been detained twice within a period of 36 months.
